Neurodevelopmental disorders
We provide comprehensive biomedical care for patients with neurodevelopmental disorders: autism spectrum disorders (ASD), ADHD, ADD, and related conditions PANS and PANDAS.
Our aim is to identify biological and neurophysiological factors that may affect an individual patient’s health and propose suitable treatment based on individual findings. We take a comprehensive view of each patient and respect their unique needs.
We use the psycho-neuro-immuno-endocrinology (PNIE) framework, which we consider one of the most comprehensive approaches to understanding relationships between the nervous, immune and endocrine systems.
When to consider testing
Assessment may be particularly useful for the following conditions:
- Autism spectrum disorders (ASD): we assess neurobiological relationships, sensory processing, and immune and metabolic factors
- ADHD and ADD: mechanisms regulating attention, impulsivity and motor activity in the context of the nervous, immune, hormonal and metabolic systems
- PANS and PANDAS: sudden onset of neuropsychiatric symptoms associated with infection or an immune reaction
- Complex neurodevelopmental difficulties: a combination of learning, behavioural, attention and emotional regulation difficulties
How it works
Initial consultation
A detailed initial questionnaire and consultation with a biochemist: medical history, current concerns, developmental history and overall health. Usually takes 60 – 90 minutes.
Laboratory diagnostics
We recommend laboratory blood tests and supplementary tests according to individual needs.
Comprehensive interpretation
We assess the data in context to identify possible dysregulation affecting nervous system function.
Individual care plan
A personalised therapeutic plan focused on supporting cognitive, emotional, physical and social functioning.
What we assess
The examination includes assessment of:
- neurodevelopmental functions and biological regulatory mechanisms
- sensory processing
- cognitive abilities
- emotional regulation and behavioural manifestations
- interconnections between the nervous, immune, hormonal and metabolic systems within the PNIE framework
What the biomedical approach is not
It does not replace psychiatric or psychological diagnostics. It adds a dimension not covered by standard behavioural assessment. Autism spectrum disorders are diagnosed by a specialist doctor or clinical psychologist using internationally recognised criteria based on developmental and behavioural assessment.
Before your examination
For a smooth examination and the most accurate results, we recommend:
- have your blood collected after fasting (8 – 12 hours)
- avoid coffee and smoking before the examination
- bring previous medical reports and laboratory results
- bring a list of medicines and supplements you take
- bring psychological or psychiatric assessments, if available
- for hormone tests, time sample collection according to the menstrual cycle phase
The information on this page is for general information and educational purposes. It does not replace an individual consultation or examination by a doctor.

What is biomedical assessment of neurodevelopmental disorders?
It is a comprehensive examination focused on biological factors that may affect nervous system function. It includes assessment of immune, hormonal, metabolic and neurochemical relationships. It does not replace psychiatric or psychological diagnostics. It adds a dimension not covered by standard behavioural assessment.
Who is the examination for?
For children, adolescents and adults with diagnosed or suspected neurodevelopmental disorders: autism spectrum disorders (ASD), ADHD, ADD, PANS, PANDAS and complex learning, behavioural or attention difficulties.
How does conventional diagnosis differ from the biomedical approach?
Conventional diagnosis assesses behaviour, development and psychological criteria to establish a diagnosis. The biomedical approach complements this with analysis of biological processes (immune, hormonal and metabolic) that may influence symptoms. These are complementary perspectives, not alternatives.
Can autism be diagnosed from blood?
No. Autism spectrum disorders are diagnosed by a specialist doctor or clinical psychologist using internationally recognised diagnostic criteria based on developmental and behavioural assessment. Blood tests may identify biological factors influencing symptoms but cannot confirm or rule out the diagnosis.
Which blood tests are used for ADHD and autism?
The scope is always individual. Depending on clinical status, it may include vitamins and minerals, metabolic parameters, a hormone profile, inflammatory markers and other biological markers. A doctor and biochemist determine the specific scope after the initial consultation.
Can vitamins or minerals affect ADHD?
Deficiencies in certain micronutrients may affect attention, sleep and mood regulation, and correcting them is one modifiable factor. However, this is not a treatment for ADHD, and blind supplementation makes no sense. Testing should come first to establish whether a deficiency actually exists.
Can the gut microbiome affect autism?
Links between the gut microbiota and nervous system function are being intensively researched, particularly through inflammatory mechanisms and the gut-brain axis. Knowledge is evolving, and findings do not yet support generalised conclusions. We therefore include gut testing individually according to each patient’s specific concerns.
What are PANS and PANDAS?
PANS and PANDAS are conditions involving a sudden onset of neuropsychiatric symptoms (obsessive-compulsive symptoms, anxiety, tics or behavioural changes) associated with infection or an immune reaction. PANDAS is specifically linked to streptococcal infection. These conditions require specialist assessment.
What is the difference between ADHD and ADD?
Both terms refer to attention regulation disorders. ADD was historically used for the form without prominent hyperactivity and impulsivity, and ADHD for the form with them. Current classification uses ADHD and distinguishes predominantly inattentive, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive and combined presentations.
Can biomedical treatment cure autism or ADHD?
No. There is currently no scientifically proven treatment that cures autism or ADHD. The biomedical approach focuses on identifying and supporting modifiable biological factors to improve overall functioning and quality of life.
Is the examination suitable for adults too?
Yes. The examination is not only for children. It is also suitable for adults with a diagnosed neurodevelopmental disorder or suspected biological factors affecting their functioning.
Do I need a doctor’s referral, and what should I bring?
In most cases, you can book directly. Bring previous medical reports, laboratory results, a list of medicines and supplements, any psychological or psychiatric assessments, and medical records relating to the neurodevelopmental condition.
How long does the first examination take?
The initial consultation usually takes 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the scope of medical history and health. A detailed initial questionnaire is completed beforehand.
