Metabolic optimisation
An individual approach focused on thorough assessment of the body’s metabolic state. We draw on clinical signs and laboratory parameters with high diagnostic value, analysed in relation to one another.
The human body constantly maintains internal balance through complex homeostatic mechanisms. When these regulatory processes are disrupted long term, diseases may develop or existing health problems may worsen.
We work with laboratories abroad offering exceptionally precise sequencing values. Results are interpreted using current scientific knowledge and modern principles of functional medicine.
When the examination is appropriate
We particularly recommend it for:
- long-term fatigue, reduced vitality, fluctuating energy or a significant drop in energy after meals
- weight gain despite usual food intake or increased abdominal fat storage
- frequent sugar cravings or evening and night-time overeating
- recurring headaches, migraines, concentration problems or reduced mental performance
- menstrual cycle disorders, premenstrual syndrome or perimenopausal difficulties
- fertility problems or when planning pregnancy
- skin problems, acne or atopic symptoms, increased hair and nail brittleness
- muscle and joint pain or slower recovery
- sleep disorders, increased anxiety, mood fluctuations or long-term mental exhaustion
- digestive problems such as bloating, constipation, diarrhoea or heartburn
- a family history of diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular or neurodegenerative disease
How it works
Initial consultation
A detailed questionnaire and discussion with a biochemist: health concerns, lifestyle, eating habits, sleep quality, physical activity and expectations.
Laboratory diagnostics
We recommend the scope of testing based on the clinical picture. This may include blood collection and, if needed, other samples such as urine and stool.
Comprehensive interpretation
A doctor and biochemist assess the results together in the wider context of your health.
Individual plan and follow-up
Personalised recommendations: nutrition, lifestyle, exercise, targeted supplementation. We regularly assess results and adjust the plan.
What we examine
We focus on the body’s key regulatory systems, connected through the psycho-neuro-immuno-endocrinology (PNIE) framework:
- Energy metabolism: efficiency of energy production, regenerative capacity, oxidative stress and low-grade inflammation
- Carbohydrate metabolism: glucose regulation, insulin sensitivity and risk of metabolic disease
- Fat metabolism: lipid profile and cardiometabolic health markers
- Liver and kidney function and mineral balance: energy management, nutrient processing and stability of the internal environment
- Hormonal regulation: thyroid, sex hormones and stress-response hormones
- Micronutrient status: stores of vitamins, minerals and other substances essential for metabolic processes
A note on scope
We tailor the scope of laboratory testing to health concerns, clinical findings and the goals of the examination. If needed, we add parameters focused on inflammation, oxidative stress or other biomarkers.
Before your examination
For a smooth examination and the most accurate results, we recommend:
- have your blood collected after fasting (8 – 12 hours)
- avoid coffee and smoking before the examination
- for some hormone tests, time collection according to the menstrual cycle phase. You will receive precise instructions when booking
- tell the doctor about regular medication, supplements and other products

Answers prepared by our medical team. If something is missing, email or call us.
What is a comprehensive metabolic examination?
It is an extensive assessment of the body’s metabolic state. It combines a detailed consultation with a biochemist, laboratory diagnostics using blood and, if needed, urine and stool, and expert interpretation of results in context. The aim is to identify factors affecting energy, weight, hormonal balance and overall health.
Who is metabolic assessment suitable for?
For people with long-term or recurring concerns that may be caused by disrupted metabolic or hormonal balance: chronic fatigue, unexplained weight gain, sleep disorders, mood swings, digestive problems, skin problems, cycle disorders, perimenopausal difficulties or fertility problems.
Which symptoms may be linked to disrupted metabolism?
Common examples include long-term fatigue and low energy after meals, weight gain despite usual food intake, abdominal fat storage, sugar cravings, headaches and impaired concentration, sleep disorders, anxiety, mood fluctuations, bloating, constipation or diarrhoea, and slower recovery.
How does metabolic optimisation differ from Longevity Start?
Longevity Start is an initial panel for someone without symptoms, measuring seven selected ageing markers from a single blood sample. Metabolic optimisation is intended for people with specific concerns, has a much broader scope and includes urine and stool samples if needed.
What is the PNIE approach?
PNIE stands for psycho-neuro-immuno-endocrinology. It is based on the interconnection of the nervous, immune, hormonal and psychological systems and the fundamental influence of their balance on health. We therefore assess how results relate to one another rather than in isolation.
What exactly do you examine?
Depending on individual indication, we assess energy metabolism and oxidative stress, carbohydrate metabolism and insulin sensitivity, lipid profile, liver and kidney function, mineral balance, hormonal regulation including thyroid and sex hormones, and micronutrient status. The scope is tailored individually.
Who assesses the results?
A doctor and biochemist together. The doctor assesses findings in the context of your health, and the biochemist in terms of metabolic relationships between individual values. This collaboration is why the examination produces a protocol rather than a list of values.
Where are samples processed?
We work with specialist laboratories abroad offering higher resolution for parameters not routinely available in Slovak laboratories.
Do I need to fast before collection?
Yes, we recommend 8 to 12 hours without food. Avoid coffee and smoking before the examination. Some hormone tests require collection to be timed to the menstrual cycle phase; you will receive precise instructions when booking. Always report medicines and supplements, as they can affect interpretation.
